About Ancora Medical Practice
Ancora Medical Practice is owned by the partners and consists of a main surgery situated on Ashby Road, Scunthorpe and a branch surgery at Detuyll Street, Scunthorpe based at the north side of the town. Like the population of the area, the practice has grown and our services have expanded. Currently we have the largest list size in North Lincolnshire of 20,000 + patients.
We strive to provide a comprehensive service of high standard family medicine. The traditional values of being a family doctor are retained against a background of a modern progressive medical practice. We are currently an eight Partner practice. We have four GPs who have training status, and we are an accredited training practice. One of the partners provides medical supervision for year 5 medical students.
The building on Ashby Road was originally two residential properties purchased by the partners and developed over the years since the practice commenced shortly after the Second World War. Following a major refurbishment this now has 12 consulting rooms, an on-site pharmacy and extended car park for up to 40 cars. It is considered to be the main site for the practice with all the administration activities taking place there. All the rooms are used to capacity and the Practice Director's room doubles as the meeting room and training room.
During this period of development the Practice achieved the RCGP PA accreditation status, being the first in this country to do so. We were honoured that in recognition of this the Chairman of the RCGP Professor Clare Gerarda came to the surgery to make the presentation.
The building at Detuyll Street was the original surgery that was founded after the Second World War. The original house that was owned and lived in by the doctor was demolished and a new purpose built surgery erected in 1984. This comprised a two storey building with 4 consulting rooms, two treatment rooms a reception and waiting area, and a meeting/training room.
A recent extension to the Detuyll Street surgery has provided a new large reception and waiting room, patient toilets, back office and staff amenities, new treatment room and two new consultation rooms. The existing building has also undergone a refurb to bring it up to a similar high standard.
